What is the route of the Frankfurt Marathon 2026
The marathon starts at Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage, right next to the Messeturm, one of Frankfurt's most recognisable skyscrapers. Runners set off in several waves organised by starting blocks based on expected finish time, and must cross the start line before 10:30 AM.
After the opening kilometres through the city centre, the course crosses the river Main via the Alte Brücke into the Sachsenhausen district. From there it heads west through the Niederrad and Schwanheim districts towards Höchst, Frankfurt's westernmost district and the furthest point on the course.
On the way back towards the centre, the route passes landmarks such as the Galluswarte, the Alte Oper and the Festhalle, mixing residential stretches with the city's main commercial avenues. The largely flat profile makes this one of Europe's fastest marathons.
The final metres are unique: runners enter the Festhalle at Messe Frankfurt, covering 60 metres indoors in front of thousands of spectators before crossing the finish line. The cut-off time to finish is 6 hours, with the finish line open until 4:45 PM.

Where to stay for the Frankfurt Marathon 2026
The start and finish are at Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage, next to the trade fair grounds (Messe), so the Westend, Bockenheim or Innenstadt (city centre) districts, north of the river Main, are the most practical areas to stay.
There are several hotels just a few minutes' walk from the start and finish, right by the Messe Frankfurt grounds, ideal if you want to minimise any travel on race day.
Frankfurt is a business city with high hotel demand on weekdays, so it's worth booking in advance, especially if the marathon coincides with a trade fair at the exhibition grounds.
Getting there from the airport for the Frankfurt Marathon 2026
Frankfurt Airport is connected to the centre by S-Bahn (lines S8 and S9), with the station right below Terminal 1 and just an 11-15 minute ride to the Central Station (Hauptbahnhof).
Trains run every 12-20 minutes during the day and the ticket costs about €6.30-6.90, also valid to continue by tram, bus or U-Bahn to your final destination without an extra ticket.
