What is the route of the Río Boedo Marathon

The 42.195 km course starts and finishes in Báscones de Ojeda, at around 1,000 metres above sea level, and follows the Boedo river on a mixed asphalt and dirt-track circuit through cereal fields, irrigated farmland and poplar groves.

It consists of a first loop of about 12 km followed by two loops of about 15 km through Revilla de Collazos and Collazos de Boedo. The route is practically flat.

Aid stations are roughly every 4 km. The race starts early (8:00) to avoid as much as possible the August heat, the real challenge of this marathon.

About Río Boedo Marathon

The Río Boedo Marathon has been held since 2002 in Báscones de Ojeda (Palencia), during the festivities of the Virgen de Boedo. It is Spain's only marathon in August, which makes it essential for runners chasing the challenge of one marathon every month of the year.

Organised by the Río Boedo Foundation and CD Atletismo San Miguel from Aguilar de Campoo, it has a very special ethos: free entry, a meal for runners and companions, free camping and no prize money, only trophies, medals and certificates.

Báscones de Ojeda is probably the smallest village in the world to host a marathon and a half marathon. Heat, altitude and lonely tracks between cereal fields make it a demanding race much loved by veteran marathoners.
